Email Bob.
I've been drawing comics since I was five years old, with my first published work at 15. My first big comics job was illustrating Capote In Kansas, for Oni Press, written by Ande Parks. I've since worked on issues of Queen & Country (Oni Press), American Splendor, Exterminators (Vertigo) and Checkmate (DC). I'm currently working on an unannounced graphic novel for Vertigo. In 2006 I was nominated for the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award. I live in St. Louis with my amazingly supportive wife, Laura and our cat, Scout.

This page, which takes place
inside a computer, was a bit
of a challenge. Figuring out
what it'd look like without
ripping off Tron or the Matrix
was just a part of it. Since
I've only been inked, or colored,
a few times in print I wanted to
get all the necessary information
across and still leave enough
room for everybody to kind of
do their own thing.

Here is a page Checkmate #21 from thumbnails to inks. My thumbnails here were done at about an inch by and inch and a half and the rough was done full size on cheap 11x17 sketchbook paper. With the rough, I was trying to nail down all the poses and locations before I got down to the nitty-gritty so that the pencils are just lightboxed over, tightening up details and moving things around on the page as I go to hopefully get the compositions to work, while trying to leave it open enough to still have fun when in comes time to ink.
